Sustainable Construction: BENTELER Steel/Tube supplies CliMore® tubes to the construction industry
Eike Dalhoff, Spokesperson
Paderborn, November 12, 2024. BENTELER Steel/Tube and Ischebeck are setting new standards in sustainable construction: Seamless CliMore® tubes from the BENTELER plant in Dinslaken will be used in pioneering geotechnical applications. Specifically, these high-quality steel tubes will be used in the construction industry as micropiles or ground nails for foundation and stabilization. The steel load-bearing elements transfer compressive and tensile loads under both dynamic and static conditions into the surrounding soil or rock structure. Ischebeck is the market leader in the field of geotechnical applications and is the first customer from the construction industry to opt for the use of CO2-reduced tubes made from EAF (electric arc furnace) steel. This makes the company a pioneer with the first micropiles made from CO2-reduced steel while improving its own carbon footprint at the same time.
"With our CliMore® products, we are setting a strong example for sustainable construction. By using green electricity, we were able to nearly halve emissions in this case – from 1,468 kg of CO2 per ton of steel to 834 kg of CO2," explains Ralph Mathis, Chief Sales Officer of BENTELER Steel/Tube. "Our customers can trust that our products deliver not only the highest quality but also a more sustainable solution for their construction projects. And verifiably so."
Sustainable micropile solutions: Innovative and environmentally friendly
By choosing CliMore® tubes, Ischebeck is taking a pioneering role as a market leader. The company is the first provider of micropiles manufactured from CO2-reduced steel. These sustainable tubes are particularly well-suited for this application and other demanding construction uses. In contrast to conventional solid bar commonly used for anchoring, Ischebeck uses a tubular solution. This lightweight construction variant uses hollow bar thereby saving materials, which further enhances its lower carbon footprint. The joint solution is therefore not only a technological leader, but also a decisive factor for environmentally conscious construction companies and the awarding of contracts in the public sector (EU Green Deal).
In addition to meeting environmental requirements and improving the carbon footprint, the use of CO2-reduced CliMore® tube as hollow bar helps reduce material and energy costs. “We are proud to have found a partner in BENTELER that shares our vision of sustainable construction,” says Björn Ischebeck. “With CliMore® tubes, we can offer our customers environmentally friendly solutions that also meet high technical standards.”
Full transparency: certified emission records
Since June 2024, BENTELER Steel/Tube’s CliMore® products are supplied with certified emission records that clearly indicate the carbon footprint in accordance with ISO 14067. This transparency enables customers to make informed decisions and actively pursue their sustainability goals. The CliMore® tubes are produced from steel sourced from BENTELER’s EAF steel plant in Lingen, which recycles steel scrap and is powered by 100% green electricity. This approach allows the tube manufacturer to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80% compared to conventional blast furnace steel.
"Our customers today need detailed emission records to meet both internal sustainability goals and legal requirements such as sustainability reporting," explains Ralph Mathis. "The collaboration with Ischebeck demonstrates that sustainability is gaining importance in the construction industry – and that BENTELER already delivers the right solutions."
