Grand Rapids, December 13, 2024. The BENTELER Group continues to expand its US business and is building a new automotive plant in the city of Wyoming, Michigan. Production is scheduled to begin in 2026. The plant will manufacture components for electric vehicles for a well-known US automaker.
“The US is one of the most important markets for our company – and our new plant is another milestone in our growth strategy here,” said Ralf Göttel, CEO of the BENTELER Group. “The investment is part of our consistent strategy to strengthen further sites in the country. We have already invested in the expansion of our module plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and in the expansion of our BENTELER Steel/Tube plant in Shreveport, Louisiana. In addition, we will be manufacturing our HOLON autonomous mover in Jacksonville, Florida, in the future.”
Emerson Galina, President Americas of the BENTELER Automotive Components Division commented: “We are confident in the positive development of the US automotive market. Therefore, we are very excited about the opening of our new plant in Wyoming. From here, we will continue to drive the transformation to e-mobility for our customers with innovative solutions and great commitment.”
Around 150 new jobs
The Stafford Avenue plant in the Greater Grand Rapids area will be BENTELER's seventh facility in the US. It covers an area of approximately 29,300 square meters – and can be expanded to over 40,000 square meters. Around 150 employees will manufacture battery trays and other metal components here, amongst other things. The plant will also have a paint shop to further increase the corrosion protection and durability of the components produced.
Steve Bates, EVP Cluster North America, BENTELER Automotive Components said: “Michigan is at the heart of BENTELER's US automotive operations. In addition to our headquarters in Auburn Hills, we have been operating another facility in Grand Rapids since 1985. Today's investment is a further clear commitment to the region. We would like to thank all of our partners, customers and other stakeholders for supporting us as we expand our operations here.”
The BENTELER Group, the parent company of BENTELER Automotive Components, currently operates six facilities in the US, employing approximately 1,700 people. In October of this year, the company announced a multi-million-dollar expansion of its Spartanburg facility and in November opened a new threading facility at its steel tube facility in Shreveport, Louisiana - also a multi-million-dollar investment.
