Schwandorf/Paderborn, May 08, 2023. BENTELER officially inaugurated a new production building with four bays at its Schwandorf site. The plant extension began in summer 2022. This is the third expansion within just a few years.
Ralf Göttel, CEO of the BENTELER Group said: "We are consistently strengthening our position as a globally relevant partner for our customers in the automotive sector, including through investments in Germany. The third expansion of our plant in Schwandorf in a short space of time is a good example of how we are making tomorrow's mobility safer and more sustainable with our products."
More room for innovative and sustainable technologies
The plant in Schwandorf is part of BENTELER's Automotive Division. In addition to battery trays, it produces, among other things, structural and chassis components for German automakers.
With over 11,000 m2, about the size of one and a half soccer fields, the new bays offer plenty of space for modern machinery. BENTELER uses various technologies for production that ensure the highest quality in the field of complex lightweight solutions. The new production area will employ around 120 people and be supported by around 140 robots. BENTELER is one of the largest employers in Schwandorf, currently employing around 690 people there. With the additional capacity, the plant will continue to hire skilled workers.
"The BENTELER plant in Schwandorf is increasingly becoming a competence center for battery trays. With the new facilities, we are once again strengthening our expertise in the areas of e-mobility and lightweight construction," explains Helmut Ascher, plant manager at BENTELER Schwandorf. "With today's dedication ceremony, we would like to thank, above all, our employees on site, without whose commitment this would not be possible."
In-house training strengthens employee competencies
In parallel with the construction of the new building, BENTELER has converted an existing manufacturing shop into a training and education center. In future, employees will be trained here in various disciplines such as robotics or welding technology. With its in-house training courses, BENTELER specifically aims to further strengthen existing employee competencies and the company's competitiveness.
Production will start as soon as the construction of all systems in the new bays is complete. BENTELER plans to deliver the first products from the new buildings to customers before the end of September 2023.
